Weoka Junior High School opened in 1935 and was closed in 1966 after being consolidated with the Elmore County School System in Eclectic, Alabama. Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Guy deeded the land to the county for the construction of the school. The school consisted of six rooms, two halls and an auditorium at a cost of $22, 800.00. The school now is only a memory as it was torn down after the consolidation. This was not the original school for this area. There was one established near the Trinity Methodist Church that we know dates back to 1893. Another school was located near Antioch Church and course these were closed a very long time ago.
The original Weoka School Trustees were H.L. Boddie, E.E. Bush, W.A. Blake, M.E. Dennis, and M.D. Collier. The original faculty was Mr. Dean Baxter, Principal, Mrs. Velma Dennis, Miss Myra McCain, Mrs. Judson Waites, Miss Mary Lou Jennings and Mrs. Layman Smith.
One of the special events that occurred while the school was open was the appearance of Hank Williams Sr. on 11/17/1939 when he was 16 years old. At that time no one knew what the future would hold for him or the school.
